Counseling can be a powerful motivator for positive change in our lives. It helps us confront scary topics in a safe and caring environment. Understanding our personal challenges is the first step in beginning to change.
Counseling and therapy are scientifically proven to work by changing the way the brain works. Although this type of change takes time, once the change is made, it's made.
I try to bring kindness, humor and a 'lets solve this" attitude to counseling sessions. My personal experience is that simple act of being heard is healing. But, it takes more than listening to change behaviors. That's where I can help. I am active and engaged during the session. I provide feedback in a safe environment and non-judgmental manner. I believe we are all just trying to do our best... and this helps bridge the uncomfortable distance between doing our 'best' and 'not doing enough'.
How will this help me?
I teach tested and proven communication and relaxation methods. Of course, its hard work, and no-one is perfect, but with patience and commitment, you can experience more fulfilling inter-personal relationships.
Why you, Jon?
Clients come to me for many reasons. During the first 'get to know you' session, we talk about my particular skills, specializedtrainings and what your unique challenges are. I find that couples, individuals, families, teeens and tweens relate well to my therapeutic style - I call it 'working humor.'
What should I do?
While there is (of course) no easy answer telling us "What to do", counseling offers help in opening communication lines and finding out the hidden reasons we do what we do. During the first session we find out if I'm a good fit for you.
